Hurricane Butterfly has improved our proven 40mm side saddle launcher mounts, now offering more mounting options and user adaptability.

These new patented mounts will allow operators to select the right configuration for their own individual needs. Currently offered in both single and double round carriage models, the side saddle will carry 40mm less-lethal munitions securely on the launcher and at the ready for quick reloads.

Facilitating both vertical or horizontal carriage on the launcher, the new and improved side saddle models allow the operator to choose a carrier setup for their individual needs and preference. The quick-detach picatinny rail clamp model attaches to the launcher’s front mounting rails. The clamp is easily adjustable to fit different specs of pic rail and can be attached or removed in seconds without any tools. Hurricane Butterfly has designed the new side saddle carrier mounts to be retrofitted down the road, so if a department changes or upgrades launchers in the future the mounting system can evolve with emerging trends.

Because this 40mm munition carrier is designed for different mounting configurations, it can also be used in an array of other useful ways. By adding MOLLE hardware attachments, the carrier can now be quickly attached to the PALS webbing of an outer tactical vest. This is great for quick reloads and increased on-person load carriage, particularly for tactical officers.

Additionally, the carrier can also be set up with belt attachment hardware, so additional 40mm munitions can be quickly secured and carried on the person. With more departments nationwide issuing patrolmen 40mm less-lethal launchers for their patrol units, this is a simple upgrade option.

Our 40mm side saddles are also adjustable for tension, to control the amount of retention desired for the munitions carried and to accommodate different brands of less-lethal 40mm. We advise individual users to experiment with the side saddle tension prior to deploying it, to find the proper amount of desired retention for the munitions being used.

INSTRUCTIONS:

• The side saddle can be mounted vertically or horizontally on the launcher. Remove the mounting screws and screw posts from the picatinny base, rotate the carrier to the desired orientation, and then reinstall the screws and screw posts using the newly selected holes. Alternately, the mount can be removed and replaced with MOLLE mount or belt mount hardware for on-person carriage.

• Retention of the 40mm munitions can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the front screw on the face of side saddle. We recommend the user spends the time to adjust this to the preferred level of tension for the particular round being used.

• To adjust tension on the Picatinny rail mount cam lever, release the lever to the “open” position.  Adjust the screw head clockwise or counter clockwise (small adjustments can be made manually), to control the amount of clamping force desired on the launcher’s picatinny rail.  Swing the clamping lever down when the desired fit is achieved. The proper fit is archived when the clamping lever is fully pressed down, and the side saddle has no perceivable play or movement on the launcher’s picatinny rail. The lever should be able to be pried open with a finger, if tools are required to unlock the cam lever then the locking tension needs to be adjusted.
